Speaker Peter Hayes, PH.D., "The German Crisis, from Defeat to the Depression, 1918-1933".
Semester I: The Context of the Holocaust
- Explore the history, sociology and politics of anti-Semitism and Jewish life prior to World War II.
- Analyze the causes of the Holocaust including factors that influenced Nazi ideology.
- Examine the Nazi rise to power and the beginning phases of the war against the Jews, including the T-4 Euthanasia Campaign, Kristallnacht, ghettoization and Einsatzgruppen.
- This class requires registration. Deadline for registration is September 21, 2010.
- Educator and university student discounts available. Graduate credit available through Alverno College.
Semester II: Development of the Killing Centers and the Nazi notion of the final solution to the Jewish Question:
- Examine Nazism, with a focus on the plaxes included in the course travel component.
- Discuss memorialization and reconciliation, including Majdanek, Belzec, Treblinka, Sobibor, Auschwitz, Ponary, Ninesfor and the Warsaw Ghetto.
- Consider perpecrtives of rescue and resistance
- Explore Terezin and its uniqueness among concentration camps.
- Explore contemporary Jewish life in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
- Educator and university student discounts available. Graduate credit available through Alverno College.
Course Dates:
Semester I: October 19, November 2,16,30 and December 14
Semester II: January 25, February 8 and 22, March 22, April 5 and 12
Classes meet from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Whitefish Bay, WI
Total registration cost for HSI Course, Semester I & II $180.00. Registration cost for one semester $100.00.
