The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center cannot do what we do without YOU. Please support us so that the HERC can continue to:
Remember
- The six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
- The one-and-one-half million Jewish children who perished during the Holocaust and who never had the opportunity to be called to the Torah through b'nai mitzvah student participation in the Wisconsin Remember Us Initiative.
- The needs of local Holocaust survivors and their families through HERC social and educational programs.
- What can happen when groups are denied basic human rights in the past and in today's world.
Educate
- Thousands of students and adults throughout the State of Wisconsin by exposing them to the personal stories of living Holocaust survivors and members of their families that represent the HERC Speakers Bureau.
- Almost two thousand students each year who attend the HERC field trip program "From Ignorance and Fear to Knowledge and Understanding." Held in a local synagogue, we teach how the power of words shaped Holocaust history and can transform prejudice and hatred into tolerance and respect in our world today.
- Teachers to understand the importance of teaching both historical and ethical aspects of the Holocaust through HERC sponsored workshops, seminars and trips.
- And provide teachers with the best resources and most effective tools to accomplish their goals. The middle and high school level HERC Holocaust Curriculum Materials Trunks are available at no charge to teachers.
- Through classroom support by sending an experienced Holocaust educator to public, private and parochial schools to enhance the instruction of such a complex topic.
- Members of the community by providing interesting programs that include speakers, workshops, film series and maintaining current resources in the CJL Library/Media Center.
Inspire
- Present and future generations to understand that a systematic destruction of a people should never happen.
- Young people to understand the dangers of remaining silent and indifferent in the face of the oppression of others.
- "This is the learning we must embrace: that from the togetherness of people who are
different from each other comes the strength to meet the challenges of our future—and
to make our darkest abysses a thing of the past."
Elizabeth Burmaster, former State of Wisconsin Superintendent, Department of Public Instruction
